Sleep Center

DeKalb Neurology and Sleep Center patient sleeping soundly after her sleep study.

Are you sleeping well? Waking up rested? If not it could pose a more serious health threat than you think.

Getting a good night’s sleep is vital to your overall health, safety and quality of life. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke.* With over 80 types of sleep disorders, it’s easy to see why so many of us aren’t getting the sleep we need.

The Sleep Medicine Center at DeKalb Regional Medical Center specializes in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders such as insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea, snoring, and restless legs syndrome. A sleep study monitors your sleeping patterns to determine why you may be having problems. Your doctor may suggest this treatment if you experience long-term sleeplessness or other recurring problems.

The Sleep Center performs sleep studies for adults. Sleep Studies at the Sleep Center take place in comfortable, home-like rooms.

Our Neurology and Sleep Clinic is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and provides comfortable rooms supervised by trained sleep technicians who can monitor up to four patients each night. We perform tests for 90 different sleeping and walking disorders, including sleep apnea.

Featured Sleep Conditions:

Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (hypersomnia) Expand

Excessive daytime sleepiness is when it becomes difficult to stay awake or alert, or if there’s an increased desire to sleep during the day. Feeling sleepy may be stronger when someone is sedentary (little to no physical activity), such as while driving or sitting at work. Although it’s normal to feel sleepy once in a while after going short on sleep, it’s considered excessive daytime sleepiness when this happens almost every day for at least three months.

Insomnia Expand

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep, or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep. You may still feel tired when you wake up.

Sleep Apnea Expand

Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night’s sleep, you might have sleep apnea.

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) Expand

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a condition that causes an uncontrollable urge to move your legs, usually because of an uncomfortable sensation. It typically happens in the evening or nighttime hours when you’re sitting or lying down.
